Bayan takes the road through Orekh that few dare go by.
The ancient land of black magic is quite and empty since the last sorcerer-lord to claim the iron crown of Orekh was cast down. But she glimpses signs that the sorcerers are creeping back into Orekh: strange lights flaring after nightfall, tracks and paths left in the sands in numbers too great to be lone wayfarers like herself, clouds of dust thrown up in the distance, perhaps by caravans or armed hosts.
Another sorcerous dynasty is rising in Orekh. Bayan may be the first in all the lands East of the Sea to be aware. She tightens her grip on her spear. There is little one lone woman can achieve against an entire cabal of sorcerers and all their armies. But it is better that the rot be rooted out now, the latest dynasty of Orekh vanquished, before it can fester too long and bring doom upon the world.
