Guiding Principles

A person in a snowy forest holding a compass.

I’ve distilled the essence of what I’m trying to accomplish with Emona Literary Services™ into three Guiding Principles, which I have identified as:

  • Emona Victrix
  • Emona Fidelis
  • Emona Vera

These three principles represent my unique approach to business and govern how I approach that business as a way to help my clients.

You can see how I’ve summed them up in this video:

My three Guiding Principles are laid out in full below.

I do words good. We’ve been over this. I’m an experienced and capable writer and editor. I’m here to make those skills an asset to your writing journey.

I can’t guarantee you’re going to become a bestseller, but I can guarantee that I’ll help bring out the best in your writing.

Writing is a journey, and we are fellow travellers.

We’re in this together.

I’m a writer myself. I know how daunting it can be to offer up the product of so much hard work to be scrutinised, picked over, torn down, and maybe built back up. My job isn’t to tell you that’s not how you spell “Aristotelian,” or to tell you that you’re a bad writer.

(You’re not a bad writer)

My job is to accompany you on your writing journey. My goal is for the feedback I offer to help. But I’m only here to help, not take over your writing journey. My feedback isn’t absolute law, just best guesses educated by a practiced point of view. You don’t have to make the changes I’m suggesting.

Nobody understands your writing journey as well as you do, and I respect that.

Part of the reason I decided to start my own writing and editing business was to be able to present my most authentic, genuine self.

That’s why my business is named after an ancient Roman fort in the country my family is from. That’s why my colour scheme is pink and black like Bret Hart’s.

That’s why I’m explaining my business model in Latin.

I’m showing you my authentic voice to help you find yours.

Part of that authentic self is to be a lifelong learner and pursuer of knowledge.

There’s a practical benefit for you here: I’m a better writer and editor than most people with wide knowledge bases, and I have a wider knowledge base than other editors.
