“Are you okay, Lucia?” Alda asks, looking up at the lynx Wildering as she bites her lip and balls her hands into fists.

“It’s Apolline’s new hat,” Lucia murmurs. “I can’t even…”

Ulrika, the sea urchin Wilderling they’ve been bodyguarding, has demonstrate a fondness for hats. Their latest visit to the hat shop saw the Aurorean sorceress has set aside her usual beret for a large floppy hat with a big feather stuck into it.

“What’s wrong with it?” Alda asks. “I like it.”

“I keep thinking there’s a bird on her head,” Lucia answers.
